New Youth Hub: Our Plans

The proposed new DDYP Youth Hub is a cedar log construction designed by Doune-based architects Log & Cedar Construction Ltd. It meets modern criteria for energy efficiency and offers the possibility of running on a carbon-neutral basis once completed.

The main feature of the building exterior is a series of cedar struts on the northern elevation. This allows for a screened, covered porch overlooking the main expanse of the park and also provides some protection from mis-hit shots from the adjacent football pitch!

The interior space makes use of a slightly larger footprint and higher roofline than the current building. This allows for a bigger, brighter main communal area and the inclusion of new spaces. The communal area will be the heart of the Youth Hub. An ante-room will be used as a staff office and also a ‘breakout’ area for young people who require time in a quiet, secure space. There is a possibility it could also be used for remote learning or video meetings.

The larger kitchen will allow DDYP to cater for events and hold cooking instruction classes. Incorporating three separate toilets, instead of the current, single toilet, meets Care Quality Commission criteria for gender-specific facilities.

It is our hope that the Youth Hub will be a significant asset for our community’s young people for generations to come.
